BSNL now in Malappuram
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) plans to expand its broadband connectivity in the district by providing 30,000 new connections this year. The company also plans to provide one lakh new mobile connections and 5,000 new landline connections in the district in this period.
“BSNL will focus on both service and network improvement,” said D M Ezhil Buddhan, general manager of BSNL, Malappuram.
Of the 4.5 lakh mobile customers who migrated to BSNL from other operators in Kerala, around 27,000 were from Malappuram telecom district. He said this was due to the trust customers had in BSNL service.
As part of its expansion activities, 125 2G and 100 3G mobile towers will be installed in the district. BSNL will also install, in its exchange centres, 20 more broadband kiosks. It now has 16 such kiosks.
The Iruvetti exchange in Areekode and the BP Angadi exchange in Tirur will be replaced by high technology exchanges. Optical fibre cables for around 100 km will also be laid in the district.
BSNL also plans to provide 1,000 new Wimax connections this year. The wireless broad band service is already available at 26 places in Malappuram.
BSNL officials said the company had introduced five new plans — roam free plans, 3G for you, 2G super, 3G data card, combo plan for 3G, and 2G customers for its mobile phone customers.
Online payment: BSNL has introduced online bill payment facility for landline customers in Malappuram. Customers can now view their bills, retrieve details of calls, and pay the bill online through the portal, selfcare.sdc.bsnl.co.in.
