Micromax launches the Android 4.0 Funbook tablet, costs Rs 6,499

Looks like Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich season is finally hitting fever pitch as we are starting to see devices being launched with Google’s latest OS out of the box, though this is happening a good six months after the OS was launched. Yesterday we saw an Android 4.0 offering from HCL and today we have the Funbook from Micromax which runs Android 4.0 out of the box and costs Rs 6,499.

Donning a 7-inch capacitive display the Micromax Funbook packs in a 1.2GHz Cortex A8 processor with a Mali GPU. Besides this, the device comes with 4GB of onboard memory and 512MB of RAM and also packs in 2800 mAh battery which is a sliver shorter than that of the HCL ME U1’s 3600 mAh battery. Apart from this, the device sports 3G dongle support via a USB and features 0.3 megapixel front facing camera.

What separates the Funbook from the rest is the fact that just like the HCL ME U1, it is geared towards students. It offers preloaded content for students of Class 1 to graduation level. Micromax has added an E-Reading app which provides content from publishers like Pearson and Universal Tutors with content for over 500 courses including preparatory material for medical, Engineering and MBA exams.

Besides this, the Funbook is home to a host of multimedia functionality as it offers access to 600 movies in nine languages over 6000 songs and 4000 videos and also provides a Live TV app. The vendor has also bundled a Tata Photon USB modem with this tablet which will offer 1GB of free data usage for two months.
