Microsoft teams up with HP to release Omni 10 tablet for Indian students

Microsoft and HP have announced they are collaborating to launch a new Windows 8.1 based tablet dubbed Omni 10 dedicated to students pursuing higher education in the engineering and management streams.

microsoft hp omniDesigned specifically for students, the Windows 8.1 powered 10.1-inch HP Omni 10 tablet will be launched with embedded content from Pearson and Microsoft Office in the higher education space.

The Microsoft offerings include a preloaded set of 10 e-books on developer tools, access to various Microsoft developer tools and servers through the DreamSpark student site, single sign-on student mail IDs as well as a 50 GB mail box and 25 GB OneDrivePro. The bundle also includes a Microsoft Certification MTA voucher for students to walk in to any Certi-Port authorized center and take the Microsoft Certification Exam.

“These customised tablets will make learning interactive and immersive and is part of our continuous efforts to make education more inclusive through technology. We believe that these are game changing devices,” Microsoft India Head (Public Sector and Education) Arun Rajamani said in the press release.

The HP Omni 10 packs a 10.1-inch touchscreen with 1,920 x 1,000 pixels resolution with Corning Gorilla 3 protection. The tablet will feature Intel Atom Z3770 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 64 GB via a microSD card slot.

The HP Ommi 10 will come with an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2 megapixel front camera, a battery, which can provide back-up for close to 8.5 hours, along with WiFi, HDMI, USB on the go, and Bluetooth for connectivity.

Priced at Rs 29,999 (£315), the HP Omni 10 will be available for all technical and management institutes and is being currently offered at an EMI plan of Rs 2,990 (£31) per month for 12 months (taxes additional).

“This special limited time ‘Institute Offer’ is valid till June 15,” Rajamani said.
