What to except from Apple iOS 6 Sundance

We Expect the Next iOS to feature Voice Navigation (Thanks to Siri) and 3D Maps for iOS Devices.

The reason we expect this is because Apple has extended its mapping services to a number of mapping companies over the past few years. The company has reportedly been working on building its own solution to maps and navigation on the iPhone, beginning with its acquisition of Placebase in 2009 and continuing with a “crowd-sourced traffic” service this year. Although Google and Apple had renewed their partnership and kept Google Maps in iOS 5, if Apple makes full use of its latest acquisitions, Apple may have no need for Google’s services for much longer.

Apple acquired a Swedish 3D mapping firm called C3 Technologies. Former high-level heads of C3 are now all working within Apple’s iOS division, though they’re still doing all their work in Sweden. C3 Technologies uses some rather science-fictionish techniques to create photorealistic 3D maps with a breathtaking level of detail. Buildings, landmarks, and geographical features all render in 3D automatically, without mapmakers having to mock them up in CAD.

Over the last few years, Apple has acquired mapping companies like Placebase, C3 Technologies and Poly9.

Last week, Apple acknowledged that its iOS iPhoto app, a photo-sorting tool for the iPad and iPhone, had switched from Google Maps data to OpenStreetMap data since March. The app uses mapping data to display the shoot location of geotagged photos.

Apple is scheduled to hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco from June 11 to 15. The key announcement at this year’s conference is expected to be iOS 6, the sixth generation of its mobile operating system. It is being said that iOS 6 is named as ‘Sundance’ will go on to be a nuisance for Google a lot.

There are also rumours that Apple may open up Siri’s API so that developers can use it in some way to collaborate it into their apps which would be cool. It is also being said that Apple is also working on how the Siri would look over the iPad and we could see the personal assistant arrive on iPads with the iOS 6.

Still all this is rumor but we still think this time we might be right 🙂
